Toilets in Brazil - all you've always had to know but never knew how to ask

Ok, I will start with the irrelevant question you've always wanted to know - Which side does the water turn when you flush?
Guess what? It doesn't! It's a jet of water that goes right down.
Sorry to shatter your dreams...

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT A BRAZILIAN TOILET - NEVER THROW THE TOILET PAPER IN THE TOILET! EW!!!
Nothing you do could possibly be grosser than that!
It is absolutely, extremely, extraordinarily nasty and ill-mannered to flush you paper down the toilet in Brazil.

The only things that go down the toilet are things that come out of your body ... except for babies, but that goes without saying.

Do you want to know where you toilet paper goes?

Look to the side of the toilet - there is a little receptacle called ... a  trash can!!! Tah-dah!!!!
PLEASE, for the love of our lady of the sailors, throw your used toilet paper in there!

If you are wondering "How gross can this be?" It is not....

You will cause a huge plumbing problem to your host if you don't follow this simple advice.

If you still feel this is gross, maybe you need to learn to use the little shower next to the toilet (It is to the left of the toilet in the picture) ... but I feel like talking about this right now will be a little too pushy for your first world brain. Let's save the little shower for another time, shall we?
